Previous Game History:
I've played quite a lot of MMOs, so I guess I should go through them all in order of how far I got in to them.
Age of Conan I had high hopes for AoC. I bought the game with expectations of fresh combat, immersive story and an innovative guild system. What I found was disappointing. I found the areas too enclosed and linear and the game economy dominated by a minority of farmers. The combat left a bit to be desired too, which amounted to mostly button mashing. I only played it for a few weeks before I found myself just as bored as when I began.
LOTRO I needed something fresh after a wave of WoW Fatigue, so I decided to have a crack at LOTRO. I had heard good things about it so I downloaded the trial and rolled a Dwarf. The thing which struck me immediately was how similar it looked to the very early stages of WoW. It almost felt like it was trying so hard to be unique, it had just taken a step back in terms of MMO development. I didn't get past the trial.
WAR Another MMO which failed to get the dungeon key to my wallet. I found the zones too cluttered with random static objects and not enough NPCs. The group quest system was fun for a while, but it hindered progression when there weren't many around (I, like many other MMO gamers don't see the time of day as relevant, unless Maintenance is involved).
SWG I began SWG after the NGE as I had heard many horror stories of the game beforehand. As a big SW fan, I was instantly enthralled with it, the setting, the characters, everything. I found the crafting system to be completely engrossing and to this day have not experienced anything quite as enjoyable! The space combat, again for the nerd factor, was one of my favourite parts, having my own personal TIE Fighter to wreak havoc in. However, once I delved deeper into the game and witnessed the depressing suburbs of Tatooine, I was disheartened. The game just didn't feel as well policed as others, with hundreds of buildings just left sitting, taking up space for months without any interaction.
EVE My second most played MMO. I really enjoyed EVE, and still do. I mostly enjoyed the way you can dictate your own progression. For example, I invested heavily in mining skills, and it's always refreshing to be able to make a lot of money whilst you level up. I still go back now and again for a little flit, but I just never had the patience to wait for all my skills. To those who know EVE, I got to around 3 million XP. To those who don't, its only a couple of months worth of playtime.
WoW Well... like most of the people you will have applying to you, most of my MMO life (much more than the rest combined in fact). My WoW life has always been about PvE, and so this will be something I will be focusing on in SWToR. I began as a wee tinker in November 2005, and began with a warrior. I continued with this character all the way to Level 60 and experienced endgame content with a stable guild. I stayed with this guild until Level 70 in the next expansion, when I found myself only going on a handful of endgame raids. The guild at this point was very close knit and started moving in a more hardcore direction, which I could not maintain as I was still in school. I left the guild in May 08 and within a few months, it was the #1 on our faction. I levelled two more characters, eventually ending up with three Level 80s, and I raided all of WotLK up until the Hardmodes in ToC. It is at this point, after an unfortunate disagreement with a member of the guild coinciding with my moving residence, that I left the guild and stopped playing WoW altogether.

Play Style:
I mostly aim for PvE content in an MMO, with most of my other time spent augmenting this aim (with professions and such as). I tend to get engrossed in the lore surrounding a game, which in this case won't be difficult given the IP! I give my full attention to all activity with other players, whether it is a simple group mission or a full on endgame raid and I am quick to praise but quick to criticise if I feel someone is or isn't performing well.
In ToR, I plan to play an Imperial Agent, as its backstory appeals to me and the playstyle is like nothing I have tried before in an MMO (no, I never played a rogue!). Depending on the game, I like to RP sometimes, but it can get a bit one sided when you get a twelve year old who speaks broken English asking you where to repair his coinpurse...
-------------------------------
Hopes for ToR:
I have been following the development of ToR since the official press release and every week I get more and more excited. My greatest hope is that they just give us a game which I can sit down and play happily without getting bored, but also without having to take an exam. Graphics wise, I'm not too fussed about anything cartoony, after all more cartoons = higher FPS. I trust Bioware to release something that doesn't even look like a new game. With most MMO releases, you get a game which you have to say "OK, it will get better as they release more content" but I believe Bioware will release a refined and polished MMO which will be able to compete with the industry leaders, without desperately trying to be too unlike WoW :)

A Little About Me
I'm Mathew, or Mat, and I'm a Physics Student in my first year of a 4 year MPhys course at the University of Liverpool. The workload is higher than the average, but nothing near what would pose a problem and cut into my MMO time. My interests outside of gaming include supporting Everton FC (season ticket holder) going to the Gym, general socialising and television shows such as Heroes, House, Firefly and recently FlashForward.

Thanks for having the patience to read this, I tend to waffle. I hope to hear from you soon and look forward to discussing development and eventually experiencing the game with you all!
Cheers,
Mat.
